State-of-the-art physical infrastructure connected to an AI hub
The MedTech Innovation Suite at Arizona State University is an engineering-driven environment designed to accelerate the development of medical technologies in a patient-free, risk-free setting. Unlike traditional simulation labs, the suite replicates real clinical workflows by integrating medical devices, imaging systems and data pipelines. This approach enables researchers, students and partners to evaluate technologies under authentic conditions, including timing constraints, decision-making and care coordination.
The suites are a joint collaboration between the Ira A. Fulton Schools of Engineering and the John Shufeldt School of Medicine and Medical Engineering that enables ASU to operate in an unprecedented way to transform how health care is designed, delivered and measured. This hands-on creation of health technologies and integrations for the future ensures immediate health impact at scale.
At the core of the suite is the Clinical AI Systems Engine, which serves as the data and AI backbone connecting all activities. Rather than treating AI as a standalone tool, the engine supports system-level testing across reliability, latency and human-AI interaction. This allows teams to design and refine technologies that are ready for real-world health care delivery.
The suite also enables new models of care that extend beyond a single location. By simulating distributed care environments, teams can explore how clinicians, patients and intelligent systems interact across settings, supporting more equitable and scalable access to care.
Comprising five interconnected environments and a maker space, the MedTech Innovation Suite advances ASU’s commitment to use-inspired research and innovation that improves health outcomes and transforms care delivery.
