Prioritizing your well-being

Caring for others starts with caring for yourself — and staying healthy — physically and emotionally — is essential to thriving in the John Shufeldt School of Medicine and Medical Engineering. That’s why we ensure our students have flexible, confidential access to high-quality health care services. From preventive care to treatment for acute or chronic conditions, comprehensive support is always within reach to help you stay healthy, focused and ready to succeed.

Your health, your access

Required health insurance

All students are required to have health insurance that covers diagnostic, preventive and therapeutic services. For those who need it, ASU offers a student health insurance plan that provides robust coverage throughout your time in medical school.

Convenient locations across ASU campuses

Students have access to ASU Health Services at multiple locations across the Phoenix metropolitan area. Each clinic provides preventive, acute and ongoing care — and you can choose the site that works best for you.

Flexibility for your health needs

Time to prioritize wellness

We understand the demands of medical school and have built flexibility into your schedule:

  • In the pre-clerkship phase, students have two to three half days per week unscheduled — ideal for routine medical or wellness visits.
  • During clerkships and post-clerkship phases, Innovation Weeks provide additional time for health appointments.
  • Students are also permitted to be excused from curricular activities to access health care, in alignment with our health care-related absences policy.
