Capstone research

In the final phase of their program, students collaborate on a medical engineering project — conceiving, designing and building prototypes that address real digital health care needs. These are industry-sponsored projects with mixed teams of medical and engineering students, guided by clinical advisors, engineering faculty and industry mentors. Capstone projects serve as a primary mechanism for both solution development and workforce training, and are tightly coupled to the ongoing development of the MedTech Suite and Clinical AI Systems Engine (CASE). Capstone research projects will also be registered with and reviewed by the Research Oversight Committee.

Students in the engineering track will complete the capstone project in year two, and MD/MS students in year four. For more information, review the course syllabi:

  • Capstone Research II: Implementation (BME 529): Prototyping, quality control, IP protection, presentation.
