A medical degree for today, and tomorrow
Accreditation through the Liaison Committee on Medical Education ensures that the M.D. program of the John Shufeldt School of Medicine and Medical Engineering meets the rigorous standards required for MD graduates to obtain licensure and secure residency placements across the United States, as well as educational excellence and public accountability. The school has received preliminary accreditation, which is the first major milestone in the multiyear LCME accreditation process that will culminate in full LCME accreditation following a series of self-studies and site visits. Preliminary accreditation means the school has successfully completed the early phases of the rigorous accreditation process and is authorized to begin recruiting and enrolling students.
The John Shufeldt School of Medicine and Medical Engineering will be subject to ongoing monitoring and evaluation by the LCME before receiving Provisional Accreditation, which is granted once the school has enrolled students and demonstrated progress toward meeting standards and Full Accreditation, which is granted after the first class graduates and the school continues to show it meets all LCME standards in practice.
The school’s journey to full accreditation is supported by ASU’s experience in institutional accreditation by the Higher Learning Commission. This dual accreditation structure reflects the school’s alignment with national standards in higher education and medical training. Accreditation activities are embedded in the school’s continuous quality improvement processes, ensuring ongoing compliance and a culture of excellence.
